CARING FOR YOUR TEAK FURNITURE

SUSTAINABLY FORESTED TEAK WOOD

All of Asta’s Teak Furniture is made from sustainably farmed top grade plantation Javanese teak.  Our teak wood is harvested from a government-controlled forest in Indonesia.  All the teak wood we are using is purchased from Perhutani.  Perum Perhutani, the Indonesian government agency, is responsible for the control of those teak farms in accordance with sustainable forestry practices.

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF TEAK WOOD

  • Wood characteristics: grain, knots, pitting, mineral deposits.

  • Wood color and natural veining will vary with each piece.

  • Expansion and construction will occur with changes in humidity.

  • Seasonal splitting and checking are inherent to wood products.

  • Some small checks or cracks may appear on the surface, as the wood ages.  This is normal and natural occurrence that should be expected during normal use, and doesn’t affect the durability of the furniture.

  • Teak will turn a silver grey if the furniture is left outdoors and not cared for with teak protector.  This silvery gray patina gives teak furniture a distinctive appearance, which many people consider to be very attractive.

CARING FOR YOUR TEAK FURNITURE

Teak furniture will withstand more abuse than many other types of wood.  Teak is the most durable and strongest among all the hardwood.  Teak is is one of the few woods containing a natural oil, so it is weather resistant, pest resistant and low maintenance.  Your teak furniture can last a lifetime and stays beautiful.  However, some attention and care will be required, enable to keep your teak furniture looking good.

  • Clean surfaces with a dry or damp soft cloth.

  • Do not use abrasive cleaner.

  • We do not recommend using oil based products to care for your teak.

  • Do not leave spills unattended.  Avoid acidic food and liquids, which can leave permanent stains.

  • Coasters are recommended to be used to protect from heat and water.

  • Keep away from extreme heat such as radiators or heating vents.

  • Over time the teak furniture will age naturally into an elegant patina brown, if you leave it indoor.  However, if you desire to maintain it’s original color, then apply a teak sealer when needed.  For the best result, we recommend you to visit a marine store and purchase specialty Teak Sealers which normally used on boats.
